One-Step High Quality FAX is intended to produce and transmit letter-qual=
ity
Faxes. It provides many value-adding features such as incorporating cust=
om
forms, thumb-tacking graphic images, and producing a variety of image for=
mats.
HQ-FAX does not receive or process received Faxes. If you are looking for=
software to process received Faxes, look for One-Step FAXHAVEN where you =
found
HQ-FAX. Or look for our World Wide Web page @ http://www.execpc.com/~htf=
cons.

=3D
As you are reading this Readme file, it is assumed that you have trans-
ferred the complete uncompressed HQ-FAX package to a diskette. It is NOT
necessary to do so. If you have downloaded the HQFAX51.zip file and unzi=
pped
it into a temporary directory, the installation procedure works OK. If y=
ou =
have not unzipped it, create a folder called HQFAX on your hard drive,(Fr=
om =
Menu Bar in GeoManager choose File then Create Folder) copy HQFAX51.ZIP t=
o =
this directory then unzip.
=0D
TO UNZIP:
A) If you have installed Unzipdir into GeoWorks, simply double click
on the HQFAX51.zip icon
Unzipdir is available on AOL in the GeoWorks Section as Unzipdir.zip
=0D
B) If not:
1) Install pkunzip if not already installed - NOTE: you should install i=
t
to a directory that is in your PATH statement
pkunzip is available from BBS or AOL and the WWW
The actual file to download is pkg204.exe
2) Go to DOS prompt
3) Go to Directory where HQFAX51.ZIP is:
a) Type "C:\" (or other drive where HQFAX51.ZIP is)
b) Type cd HQFAX (or other directory where HQFAX51.ZIP is)
4) Type pkunzip HQFAX51.ZIP
=0D
IF HQFAX IS ON DISKETTE:
A) Mount the installation diskette into drive A: or B:
=0D
B) Enter A: or B: Make sure that the DOS prompt changes from
C:> to A:>, or from C:> to B:>. This is very important!
=0D
c) Type "Install". If you wish the package to install itself on any
directory other than C:\HQFAX, enter the pathname in the Install com=
mand.
Example (1): "Install D:\Hqfax",
Example (2): "Install C:\Doc2fax"
=0D
IF HQFAX IS UNZIPPED ON YOUR HARDDRIVE:
A) Go to DOS prompt
=0D
B) Go to Drive where HQFAX is:
1) Type "C:\" (or other drive where HQFAX is)
2) Type cd HQFAX (or other directory where HQFAX is unzipped)
=0D
c) Type "Install". If you wish the package to install itself on any
directory other than C:\HQFAX, enter the pathname in the Install com=
mand.
Example (1): "Install D:\Hqfax",
Example (2): "Install C:\Doc2fax"
=
Now you can watch HQ-FAX install itself. It will only take a minute.
This install procedure will NOT update your Autoexec.bat file. It will
place a customized "Hqfax.bat" file in the root directory, drive C:, so
that it will change to the C:\HQFAX directory (or the directory that
you specified) before executing the HQ-FAX procedure.
=0D
NOTE: To use the HQFAX.BAT file, you should have "C:\" in your
PATH statement. If you do not, HQFAX.BAT will not execute unless you are=
at the "C:\" DOS prompt. To get to the "C:\" DOS prompt:
1) If you are anywhere in the "C" drive simply type "cd \"
2) If you are in a drive other than "C", type "C:\"
Then type "cd \"

=3D
We strongly recommend to new users of HQ-FAX that the following procedure=
be
followed to get acquainted with the product. It is assumed that you have =
a
functioning FAX modem when you are ready to exercise HQ-FAX. If not, you=
may
follow these instructions to get the feel of HQ-FAX, but you will not be =
able
to examine the Faxed output.
=0D
A) Print out the files "HQFAX.hlp" and "Readme.hqf" if you have not alrea=
dy
done so and have them handy. These are both Text only files and can be =
imported into GeoWorks or the Text Editor and printed from there. They =
will
be found in HQFAX directory (or the directory where you installed HQFAX)=
=2E
=0D
B) Have ready the phone number of a FAX station to send a FAX to.
You will wish to examine the FAX(es) that you send.
1) Go to the "C:\" DOS prompt. Enter "HQFAX" at the DOS prompt.
2) Use the <TAB> key to position the cursor to the Phone(Send-to) fiel=
d.
3) Enter a phone number of a FAX machine into the Phone field.
4) Enter <F10>. This will save the phone number which you entered.
5) Enter <F2>. This will convert and send the sample file "HQFDEMO1.ec=
l"
to the FAX station.
=0D
C) Next, let's FAX a cover sheet with the document.
1) Go to the "C:\" DOS prompt. Enter "HQFAX" at the DOS prompt.
2) Enter <F7>. The cover sheet screen will appear.
Use the <TAB> key to position the cursor from field to field.
Fill in the correct cover sheet information for your needs.
Enter a quick note to a friend at the FAX station you will send=
to.
3) Enter <F10>. This will save your current cover sheet for later use.=
(In the future you will wish to remove the text "[FILE]htfclogo=
" from
the top of this screen, & the text "[X]JHancock" from the botto=
m).
4) Enter <F2>. This will exit the Cover sheet screen & return you to H=
QFAX.
5) Enter <F2> again. HQFAX will convert and send the cover sheet & the=
file
"HQFDEMO1.ecl" to the FAX station.
=0D
D) Next, let's FAX a cover sheet without a document.
1) Go to the "C:\" DOS prompt. Enter "HQFAX" at the DOS prompt.
2) Enter <F7>. The cover sheet screen will appear.
Use the information which you have previously typed in.
Remove the text "[FILE]htfclogo" from the top of this screen, a=
nd the
text "[X]JHancock" from the bottom of this screen. This will re=
move
the graphic logo and signature from the Faxed output.
3) Enter <F10>. This will save your current cover sheet for later use.=
4) Enter <F2>. This will exit the Cover sheet screen and return you to=
HQFAX.
5) Use the <TAB> key to position the cursor to the File field.
Use the <spacebar> to blank out the name in the file field *AND=
* the
file extension *AND* the OUTPUT to field.
Make sure that there is nothing but spaces in these fields.
This causes HQ-FAX to send just a cover sheet.
6) Enter <F2> again. HQFAX will convert and send the cover sheet which=
you
have set up to the FAX station.
=0D
E) Next, let's FAX a simple ASCII file. How about "C:\autoexec.bat".
1) Go to a DOS prompt. Enter "HQFAX".
2) Put the file name "C:\Autoexec" in the input-file-field, with the f=
ile
extension "bat" in the field which currently has "ECL" in it.
2) Enter <F2> as before. HQFAX will convert and send the file
"C:\autoexec.bat" to the FAX station.
=0D
F) Next, let's produce a print-to-disk file in Epson format and FAX it.
Doing a print-to-disk is easy, but setting it up for the first tim=
e may
be a challenge. =
=0D

6) DEFINITION OF Shareware
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=

=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=
=3D=3D
Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying=
=2E
If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are expected to=
register. Individual programs differ on details, some request registratio=
n
while others require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue using th=
e
software to an updated program with printed manual.
=0D
Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and the
copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as
stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like
commercial authors, and the programs are of comparable quality.
(In both cases, there are good programs and bad ones)! The main differenc=
e
is in the method of distribution. The author specifically grants the righ=
t
to copy and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
specific group. For example, some authors require written permission
before a commercial disk vendor may copy their Shareware.
=0D
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should
find software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's commer-
cial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier,
because you can try before you buy. And because the overhead is low,
prices are low also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee --
if you don't use the product, you don't pay for it.
=0D
You must treat this software just like a book. An example is that this
software may be used by any number of people and may be freely moved from=
one computer location to another, so long as there is no possibility of i=
t
being used at one location while it's being used at another. Just as a bo=
ok
cannot be read by two different persons at the same time.
=0D
You are encouraged to pass a copy of HQ-FAX along to your friends for
evaluation. Please encourage them to register their copy if they find tha=
t
they can use it. All registered users will receive a copy of the latest
version of the HQ-FAX product.
=0D
Commercial users of HQ-FAX must register and pay for their copies of
HQ-FAX within 30 days of first use or their license is withdrawn.
Site-License arrangements may be made by contacting HTF Consulting at the=
address listed below.
=0D
Anyone distributing HQ-FAX for any kind of remuneration must first contac=
t
HTF Consulting at the address below for authorization. This authorization=
will be automatically granted to distributors recognized by the (ASP) as
adhering to its guidelines for Shareware distributors, and such distribut=
ors
may begin offering HQ-FAX immediately. However HTF Consulting must be
advised so that the distributor can be kept up-to-date with the latest
version of HQ-FAX).
